Janet Queen was born in Oban on the west coast of Scotland. After working in gardens in Perthshire she studied horticulture for three years at the Royal Botanic Garden, Edinburgh. Formerly a head gardener with the National Trust for Scotland, and on private estates in Northamptonshire and the Outer Hebrides, Janet now lives in Cumbria, northern England.
