Biolin Research Inc. began as a research facility with the goal of producing fiber from flax grown in the Prairie provinces of Canada. It has morphed into a privately owned company with the purpose of processing and marketing the fiber and the shive produced in the processing of the flax straw. The fiber is used in textiles, plastic composites, stuffing, insulation, geotextiles and specialty paper. Shive is presently used in horticulture for ground cover and mulch, and in animal bedding
